Through the wonderful world of etsy... God ran me into a sweet sweet lady with the SWEETEST etsy shop! ***She has the coolest vintage trinkets ever (see above)! It was like going to an amazing garage sale or the ultimate thrift store! I had to have her be my very first interview!
Briefly...Who the heck are you?
Boston Bag Lady is Sandy - a sassy and sarcastic 27 year old gal living in Boston, working as a graphic / web designer and vintage enthusiast.
I indulge in: foreign flicks, museums, coffee / tea shops, thrift shopping, gossip blogs, eating sweets, art, people watching, rock shows & giggling.
What were you doing before you started Boston Bag Lady and what launched you into pursuing an etsy shop?
Before BBL, I was doing what I am doing now (design). I've always had in interest in vintage items and have slowly been collecting over the past few years. It got to a point where I decided that I had to start selling some items to make room for new collections.
How did BBL start? Where did the name come from?
Boston Bag Lady came after much deliberation. I wanted to convey my location as well as what I sold. Initially, I was just going to sell vintage bags but slowly my paper and ephemera collection started getting out of hand so I included that. Bag Lady also reveals a bit about me in that I can never seem to throw anything away and just love collecting random and obscure items.
I started BBL in January of 2008. I actually had three sales on my first day opening so that was very exciting. I'll be celebrating 2 years soon!
Who or what inspires you?
I receive inspiration on a daily basis from many different things: people, events, imagery, colors, music, art, etc. Just today, I was inspired by a print on a women's dress for creating some holiday cards.
If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life... what would it be?
Skinny jeans, simple tee, some sort of long sweater / cardigan and flats. Casual and comfortable, but still sweet and sophisticated.
Any style Icons?
Zooey Deschanel - She's a classic beauty that has a unique quirky sense of style that incorporates vintage clothing. She takes fashion risks and it is always fun to watch her ever changing style.
Jen Lula of JenLovesKev - Amazing style. Great blend of thrifted items and contemporary fashion. I always look to her blog for "Style Files" for inspiration.
Favorite movie line of ALL time?
From my favorite movie Amélie:
Man in photo: She is in love.
Nino Quincampoix: I don't even know her!
Man in photo: Oh, you know her.
Nino Quincampoix: Since when?
Man in photo: Since always.
Man in photo: In your dreams.
POP QUIZ: You have classic convertible full of gas and the week off. What do you do?
First, I would have to hire a chauffeur since I do not drive (the one downfall of being a city girl). I would travel to Chicago most definitely. It's one of the US cities I'm dying to see.
Biggest vice?
People who huff and puff while waiting in line. Life is too short to get stressed about having to wait an extra ten minutes for something. People who do not give you personal space while checking out in line also drives me mad.
What beauty products do you swear by?
Burt's Bees Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil. It's essential.
Okay so...your house is burning down (oh drats!!) what 3 items do you grab... fast style?
My computer, my purse and my mother's wedding album.
Love this Blue Western Twirl Skirt. Great color!
This dress is so fun. Love the blend of colors in the tie-dye.
This Schoolgirl dress is darling. I love how you added the white belt.
Your song of the day!
"Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga
It's been getting a lot of airplay and Lady Gaga is pure style!
Isn't she Wonderful!?
XO!
