my fmag interview.

●Tiffany, introduce yourself shortly
hi, im tiffany mcleain! i am 29 and i am a blogger and owner of FancyCatVintage.

●When and why did you start blogging and what’s your favorite thing about it?

i started blogging in an online journal years ago (as a diary) when i was in college.
that was nice and all, but i love what i do now with my current blog, Drops Of
Jupiter. i guess i wanted to start showing people the pretty things i came across on
the internet. i have so many things i love in files on my computer and in the internet
cloud... it's so great for my own personal little "show and tell." my favorite thing
about blogging right now is tattoo tuesday! i LOVE coming across a good tattoo now
that i have people to share it with.

●How did you decided to create your own online shop?

first it started out as a way to clean my room and get rid of things i didnt need
anymore on ebay. things like old jeans, tennis shoes etc. from there it went to
selling discontinued Chanel nail polish colors that my kid sister and i had a collection
of. we had NO IDEA how much people loved some of the discontinued Chanel colors
like "Vamp!" next thing you know, we made a shop selling vintage clothes. i loved
wearing "pre-loved" clothes i got from the thrift store or my mom's closet but never
thought i'd have my own business in selling vintage.

●Why did you decide to sell vintage clothes?

i decided to sell vintage clothes when i ran out of "vintage" Chanel nail polish. my
sister and i had a good little first business going and we didn't want it to end. i was
checking out vintage clothes on ebay and thought "hey, i can do that with the things
i have in my closet!" we tried it out and we never stopped!

●Your favorite blogs or other web reads you look at daily?

my sister, Danielle's blog, DaysDaysDays at http://inspireddays.blogspot.com is one
of the best photo collection blogs out there.
i also LOVE Noa of Feather Love Photography's work on http://featherlove.com
and her BLOG! (she actually said she'd be my wedding photographer... i hope
she doesn't forget as she's getting pretty big and popular. i still want her!)

●How could you describe your style?

uhmmm. i can't.
well i can try... lately i have been seeing my style as bohemian/hippie/euro. i know,
that doesn't make sense to me either. if i could afford it, i would just copy Nicole
Richie with everything she wears.

●Best thing about fashion.

the best thing about fashion is that it changes all the time BUT it will always have
classics like the LBD (little black dress) and black biker jackets (i purchased one
recently and i know i'll wear it forever) and of course blue jeans.

●Which fashion period is the best for you?

oh no, this is tough. today, i would say the late 60's to early 70's. i'm really into The
Beatles' music right now and I can't stop playing the Abbey Road album. I LOVE all
their photos from around that time.

●Who are your favorite designers?

im not too deep into the high fashion design world. i LOVE vintage clothes and the
name on the tag inside doesn't really interest me. id rather look at an old fashion
magazine than a new one.

●Where are you shopping?

i love to shop the thrift stores of course and for new items i love to go to h&m.

●How could you describe the clothing style in California? And do you like it?

oh boy. well southern california is a big mixing pot of fashion. trendy is the first word
that comes to mind when thinking about fashion in Ca. every now and then i come
across someone with an outfit that makes me and my sister go "ooh! that's cute" but
that's only because we are weird ;)

●What do you think is idiosyncratic style feature of Californian girl? Boy?

i had to google idiosyncratic! that was a new word to me :) (freakish was an example
word) i dont think anything is freakish really so long as you own up to it. wear what
you want to wear and follow through with confidence. i get sad when i see someone
who was too afraid to go all the way through with a look.

●What is your favorite thing about living in California?

i always say, where i live, i am an hour away from the beach, the city, the snow and
the desert! i LOVE it and i'll always reside here.

●What kind of shops you can find in California? Which are the most popular?

the places i try to stay away from on busy days are the mall because they are very
busy and it's so difficult to have a nice shopping experience. The kids these days
LOVE Urban Outfitters and American Apparel it's easier to shop those stores online.

●What do you miss the most in California? Maybe there aren’t many shops which

you like? Clubs? Places to have fun or something…
well a few years ago H&M finally came to california. I used to have to go to New York
or Europe to shop H&M. I wish we had Hoagie/Subway kind of sandwich places that
the east coast has. Also I wish we had baguettes and bakeries like the French have.

●Who is your favorite fashion icon?

I loved Madonna's 80's fashion when I was a kid. I also love seeing what Jackie O.
used to wear (she's probably my favorite). I like to check out what Michelle Obama
wears when she makes appearances too!

●Where do you get inspiration for your style?

Old photo's on the internet, Magazines, I also love anything that reminds me of my
childhood, weather I wore it or my mother or even someone else.

●What kind of accessories do you like?

Oh I LOVE accessories. I own tons of sunglasses, necklaces, pins, rings...I can go on!
I always wear my stack rings, my ID bracelet, and my tiny earrings. I usually always
have a long necklace on too!

●Three songs you can’t do without this summer?

"Come Together"- The Beatles
"City Love" - John Mayer
"Drops Of Jupiter" - Train (of course!!!)

●Any parting advice for our readers?

Don't be afraid to wear vintage! It looks just as good as the new stuff anyway. J
